Artist Statement-
This has been my fourth-semester taking ceramics and each semester I have made a completely different body of work. This semester, I have spent most of my time learning how to make different styles of teapots. Teapots are the hardest forms to create because of their need for making perfect proportions along with the need for attention to detail. My body of work is composed of five teapots with various forms but are unified by the smooth white glaze. In addition to my teapots, I added one of my favorite pieces which is a vase that is cohesive to my whole body of work. To push my work to another level, I decided to add a unique feature to the clean, white surface by adding laser decal copper ants. This is a process where I cut out each ant and applied each one to the glazed surface before firing the work a third time, permanently attaching the decal to my pot. I am very proud of the hard work that I have put into my teapots. I am excited to see what my future holds for me in ceramics next year as I am currently considering trying IB art next year!
